Married couples and couples living together owed on average ISK 8.7 million at the end of last year, 62.2% due to house purchases. Single individuals and single parents owed on average ISK 2.7 million, 69% due to housing purchases.
Statistics Iceland reported these figures to parliament after a question from MP Helgi Hjörvar reports Morgunbladid. According to Statistics Iceland couples living together from 36 – 40 years of age carried the most debt, on average ISK 13 million.
