State Radio and TV in Uproar

A new news editor for state tv and radio RÚV was announced yesterday. He is one Audun Georg Ólafsson, currently marketing and sales manager for Marel in Asia.

Journalists at RÚV are in uproar saying that Ólafsson was hired politically and that the whole thing is a farce. Ólafsson, a member of the Progressive Party, has two years work experience at a local radio station.

The news editor of RÁS 2 has resigned. Parliamentarians of the Left Green and Alliance Party have strongly opposed to this decision which they say undermines the neutral position of state tv and radio.

Journalists are considering not broadcasting news today in protest.
