The Icelandic State Prosecutor has filed charges against the mother of a newborn baby boy who was found dead in a dumpster by a hotel in central Reykjavík in July, 2011. The case was sent to Reykjavík District Court on Monday and will open shortly.

The State Prosecutor was unwilling to disclose information on the details of the charges to yesterday. They have yet to be presented to the defendant. According to Fréttabladid, she is facing murder charges.

As reported earlier, the woman is suspected of having placed the infant in the dumpster shortly after giving birth unnoticed in one of the hotel rooms. Autopsy indicated that the baby had been born alive.

The woman, who originates from Lithuania, has been under travel ban. In September it was reported that psychiatrists found her to be compos mentis.

A DNA analysis concluded that the baby had a father in Iceland, who was unaware that the woman had been carrying his child. No one around her appeared to have known that she was pregnant.
