Standup Comedy Show in English in Reykjavík

By Iceland Review

A standup comedy event in English, headlined by Belgian professional comedian Lieven Scheire and supported by Icelandic comedians Sveinn Waage and Rökkvi Vésteinsson, will be held on July 23 at Batteríid in downtown Reykjavík (between The Dubliner and Sódóma Reykjavík).

Lieven Scheire.

Scheire was an exchange student in Iceland in 2000, where he met Vésteinsson. The duo subsequently ventured into comedy. Back in Belgium, Scheire started doing standup, earning the Lunatic’s Award, a Belgian standup comedy award, in 2002.

Vésteinsson started doing standup comedy in Iceland in 2003. He then moved to Montreal and in 2006 won in the opening round of YukYuk’s Great Canadian Laugh off in Ottawa. Vésteinsson has since performed in Canada, Ireland, Iceland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Waage won the first Iceland’s Funniest Man competition in 1998. He has since had a successful career in standup comedy, performing both in Icelandic and English. Waage will be appearing as Brian McBastard, his mad Scottish alter ego.

The show starts at 9 pm and tickets cost ISK 1,000 (USD 7.85, EUR 5.55).

Scheire will also host a workshop in improvised comedy acting at Hitt Húsid, Pósthússtraaeti 3-5, 101 Reykjavík on July 25 at 6 pm. The workshop is entirely in English.
