Spring Snow Delays Start of Football Championship

The Icelandic Championship in football was supposed to begin yesterday with a game on an outdoor football field in the capital region. However, the game was postponed because of the snowy weather.

The second game which was supposed to take place tonight has also been postponed and decisions have yet to be made about other upcoming games, Morgunbladid reports.

In other sport news, the Icelandic national team in men’s basketball will play again this summer after a two-year break because of the Basketball Association’s tight financial situation.

In handball, Akureyri beat FH from Hafnarfjördur 23-22 yesterday in the teams’ duel for the Icelandic Championship title. The winner must win three games and the score is currently 2-1 for FH. The next game is on Wednesday.
