Speeding Fines Simplified for Tourists

The Ministry of Transport is working on new laws which will facilitate collecting fines for driving infractions, especially from foreign tourists, RÚV reports. As of February, foreign tourists owed over ISK 27 million ($255 000/€216 000) in fines.

Just 80 percent of fines charged to foreign tourists last year were paid, while the figure for January and February of this year stands at just over 60%. Minister of Transport Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson says the new legislation will specifically facilitate the collection of fines for infractions that are caught by traffic enforcement cameras.
