The Reykjavík police have been busy ticketing drivers for reckless driving; almost 600 drivers have been caught in April so far. Most are said to have been driving faster than 100 km/hour (about 65 mph). Automated cameras in the tunnel under Hvalfjord have taken photos of 80 speeding drivers in the last two weeks. Traffic safety is a main concern of authorities. The first three months five drivers have died in road accidents in Iceland.
