Speeding Driver Calls 146 km/hr ‘Normal Speed’ for Europe

Police pulled over the driver of a minibus speeding on Suðurlandsvegur in South Iceland shortly before midnight last night, reports RÚV . The vehicle was traveling at a speed of 146 km/hr (91 mph), while the maximum permitted speed on Suðurlandsvegur, the southern section of Rin Road One, is 90 km/hr (56 mph). The driver, who was foreign, allegedly gave the excuse that this was a normal speed in Europe.

The vehicle was a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus, according to police information. The police report did not indicate whether any passengers were in the vehicle at the time.
