The special forces of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police were called out shortly before noon today to assist the police in Selfoss, South Iceland, because of a woman who was armed with a shotgun, standing on the balcony of an apartment complex and aiming at pedestrians.
The officers fenced off a large area around the apartment complex and three special forces officers then broke into the woman’s apartment. By 1:20 pm, she had been arrested and removed from the scene. No one was reported to have been harmed but Selfoss residents were in shock, mbl.is reports.
Before aiming a shotgun from the balcony, the woman had threatened a young man with a handgun. The police’s statement reads as follows:
“At 10:21 the police was notified of a woman in a car who had driven up to a young man on Langholt in Selfoss, stopped her car and aimed a handgun at the man but then driven away. Shortly afterwards the woman’s car was found abandoned outside an apartment complex in Selfoss. Police officers monitored the building while waiting for backup from the special forces of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police. Earlier in the day, the woman had aimed a gun at another man on Árvegur.”

“The woman was arrested and the police’s operation at the scene concluded subsequently. The case is now in the hands of the South Iceland Police investigative department, who are investigating the case.”
