Southampton Hot for Icelandic Footballer Gylfi?

Icelandic football commentator Guðmundur Benediktsson (Gummi Ben) tweeted on Sunday that Premium League club Southampton had made a GBP 34 million (ISK 4.8 billion, USD 42 million, EUR 39 million) offer to Premium League club Swansea, for its star, Icelandic player Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson, in the January window. Apparently, Swansea refused.

Swansea is second from bottom in the league, with only 15 points after 20 games. According to fotbolti.net, Gylfi is keen to help Swansea stay in the league. Other big clubs are also said to be interested in Gylf, including Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool, the last of which currently places second in the league.

Gylfi has been Swansea’s best player this season, being directly involved in 50 percent of the club’s 22 Premier League goals with six assists and five goals. He signed a four-year contract with the club last summer.

Gylfi is also one of the best players on the Icelandic national team, recently being named Sportsperson of the Year for 2016.
