South Iceland Road Closed, Flights Postponed

The road across mountain pass Hellisheiði connecting Reykjavík with South Iceland was closed this morning due to snowy and stormy conditions. All domestic flights scheduled this morning have been postponed.

“The weather keeps playing tricks on us. According to our information there is no weather for traveling at the moment. We iterate that people familiarize themselves with road conditions if they’re heading out but otherwise stay inside,” the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police encouraged on their Facebook page.

The wind speed in Southwest Iceland is currently 15-23 m/s. Travel conditions are poor across the country but the weather is set to improve in the afternoon.
