South Iceland Priest Not Guilty of Sexual Harassment

The District Court of South Iceland found Rev. Gunnar Björnsson in Selfoss not guilty of sexual harassment against two teenage girls from his congregation yesterday. Compensation demands were dismissed.

The ruling concluded that due to lack of evidence it was impossible to prove that sexual harassment had taken place. The alleged sexual violations took place some years back, Morgunbladid reports.

The case had come down to word against word and the ruling concluded that both Rev. Björnsson’s and the girls’ testimonies had been credible. The ISK 1.4 million (USD 9,400, EUR 7,500) in legal costs will be covered by the Icelandic state.
