Sort Your Garbage, Cannabis Too!

Several plastic bags, containing a large amount of waste from cannabis production, were placed in a container intended for corrugated paper in Akureyri yesterday. Police were notified, but are unable to trace where the waste came from.

There is every indication that the waste comes from a large cannabis production facility. Frímann Stefánsson, station manager for the Container Service of North Iceland, told Hringbraut this was an unpleasant delivery. Akureyri is at the forefront when it comes to recycling in Iceland.

Frímann jokingly remarked that those involved in the production of cannabis need to take care to put the waste in the right containers. He stressed that stems and cuttings belong in organic waste, while glove and plastic bag boxes belong with paper. Rubber gloves and tubes for ventilation, on the other hand, should go into general garbage, but plastic items need to go into the container which holds plastic.

Frímann uses the media to get his message across, since police can’t trace the origin of the garbage, and he, therefore, is unable to speak directly to the growers.
