The Social Democrats in Reykjavík City announced at a meeting yesterday that members of the party would urge Reykjavík citizens they meet on the streets in the next few days not to forget the current situation in Reykjavík City Council.
The party’s leader in the city, former Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson, who is also a physician, said he had prescribed “red pills against the nonsense” for Reykjavík residents so that they could “withstand two more years,” Morgunbladid reports.
Members of the Social Democrats are indeed going to hand out “red pills” (candy, red is the party’s color) and red roses to pedestrians to remind them that the Independence Party has collapsed yet another majority coalition in Reykjavík City this term and encourage them not to forget that in the next city council elections scheduled for 2010.
The new Mayor of Reykjavík, Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir, will be inaugurated today.
