Social Democrats in Reykjavík: “Time for Something New”

Dagur B. Eggertsson, leader of the Social Democratic Alliance in Reykjavík, discussed the coalition talks taking place between his party and the Best Party in a meeting with other Social Democrats yesterday. “It is time for something new in politics,” he said.

At the meeting, which was well-attended, Eggertsson said he has a feeling that Reykjavík residents are excited about a coalition between the Best Party and the Social Democrats, ruv.is reports.

Eggertsson also said that the results from the municipal elections on Saturday had been a blow to the Social Democrats. However, he is optimistic about cooperating with the Best Party, which involves both uncertainty and anticipation.

Meanwhile, prospective mayor and leader of the Best Party, comedian Jón Gnarr, will be a model at a special fashion show on Austurvöllur square in front of the Icelandic parliament tonight at 6 pm, visir.is reports.

The fashion show is being held to raise money for Dagsetur, a shelter for homeless people, and also to raise awareness for the Salvation Army’s second-hand store. Around 20 people come to Dagsetur every day, where they can eat, shower, wash their clothes and meet with consultants.

Other Icelandic celebrities will model in the show as well, including pop star Páll Óskar, actress Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir, musician-performance artist Haffi Haff and singer Birgitta Haukdal.
