Sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas from the Holuhraun eruption remains in Northeast Iceland. Last night, the level of SO2 reached close to 2,500 mµ/m3 in Vopnafjörður. People were advised to remain indoors, close their windows and turn on the heating, ruv.is reports.
The pollution level has since dropped below 100 mµ/m3 but the air quality is currently poor in the Mývatn area, north of the eruption site, measuring over 1,100 mµ/m3 at the Mývatn measuring station and 900 in Reykjahlíð.

The air quality was poor in Reykjavík yesterday, approaching 2,000 mµ/m3, but has since returned to normal.
