Snowstorm Disturbs Traffic in Southwest Iceland
Inhabitants of Sudurnes, the southern Reykjanes peninsula, were troubled by stormy and snowy weather yesterday. Grindavíkurvegur highway was impassible and road workers had problems clearing it because many cars were stuck in snowdrifts.
Commuting within Grindavík town limits also proved difficult yesterday. Local search and rescue service Thorbjörn was busy assisting people who had driven their cars into snowdrifts, the first in the early hours of the morning, Fréttabladid reports.
Seven traffic accidents were reported to police and Reykjanesbraut highway, connecting Reykjavík and Keflavík International Airport, was closed for some time because of an accident. Three were taken to Sudurnes Health Institution, but their injuries were minor.
