Snow Hinders Commuting in Reykjavík

By Iceland Review

Roads in Reykjavík are covered in snow and many neighborhood streets were not passable this morning. Municipal workers have been working through the night to try to clear the roads but are yet to reach all suburbs, reports.

Þröstur Víðisson at Reykjavík City’s environment division encouraged drivers of small cars to think twice before setting off this morning. Þröstur emphasized that city workers had been unusually busy clearing up the snow since yesterday.

Drivers ran into trouble on the Hellisheiði and Þrengsli passes between Reykjavík and South Iceland, as well as Sandskeið, last night due to bad weather. The roads were closed last night and several people had to leave their cars behind and travel with the search and rescue team on site to the closest built up area.

Roads around the country are icy today.
