Snow and Northern Lights in Reykjavík

Reykjavík residents woke on Sunday to see the city covered in snow.

There has been little snow in the city so far this winter but the forecast is for more this evening. However, the temperature is expected to rise overnight with snow turning to sleet and then rain by tomorrow.

Around 5,000 people headed to Bláfjöll, the capital area’s ski resort, yesterday.

In other parts of the country, snow or sleet is also expected this evening. Drivers are asked to take caution around the country including on the Hellisheiði mountain pass leading south from Reykjavík due to icy conditions.

Yesterday, magnificent displays of the northern lights could be seen in the capital area.
