Snow and Freezing Temperatures for Iceland on Spring Equinox

While today marks the astronomical start of spring, Icelanders will experience wintry weather across the country. Temperatures hover around the freezing mark, with the Icelandic Met Office forecasting snow in most regions. East Iceland is the exception, with sunny, dry weather in the forecast, though temperatures there will not rise above 4°C (39°F) today.

March 20 marks the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere this year, when the day and night are equally long. Though the occasion reminds Icelanders that the dark days of winter are behind them, it is still quite some time until the nation will experience true “spring-like” weather. More cold temperature and snow are expected throughout the week.
