Snæfell Makes History

This year was a record-breaking year for the Icelandic champions in women’s basketball, Snæfell from Snæfellsnes peninsula. They set an all-time Icelandic record winning 27 of the 28 games they played in the league in 2014.

“I think it’s unique how well we have played because we don’t get to train that much together as some of the team members live in Reykjavík,” team captain Hildur Sigurðardóttir told visir.is.

The top scorer for Snæfell last autumn was the U.S. professional 24-year-old Kristen McCarthy. Her mother Denise McCarthy was the talk of the town when she visited Kristen in the Snæfellsnes town of Stykkishólmur around Thanksgiving and invited the team to a turkey feast, visir.is reports.
