Smekkleysa Record Store Closing for Business

Smekkleysa Record Store on Laugavegur in Reykjavík is closing temporarily and is thus offering a clearance sale of CDs, DVDs and vinyl records this weekend. Since October 2004, the record store has been a sanctuary for dedicated music collectors.

According to a Smekkleysa spokesman, the owners are looking for a new location for the store.

Many cutting edge musicians have performed in the store’s facilities, including Ghostigital, FM Belfast, Reykjavík!, Jakobínarína, Jeff Who? and Daníel Ágúst. Foreign performers include Mount Eerie (The Microphones), Nina Nastasia and Huun Huur Tuu.

Smekkleysa Record Store also facilitates Humar Gallery, displaying the work of Icelandic artists like Ólöf Nordal, Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir, Brynhildur Thorgeirsdóttir, Hugleikur Dagsson and Lóa Hjálmtýsdóttir.
