Slight Increase in Iceland Household Expenditure

Statistics Iceland’s Household Expenditure Survey 2009-2011 found that the average household expenditure between 2009-2011 was ISK 443,000 (USD 3,500, EUR 2,700) per month and has increased by 0.4 percent from the 2008-2010 survey.

However, as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 4.0 percent between 2010 and 2011, the real household expenditure declined by 3.5 percent.

According to the survey, the average household consists of 2.4 individuals and average household disposable income is ISK 514,000 (USD 4,060, EUR 3,140) per month.

Disposable income is for most household higher than expenditure with expenditure amounting to roughly 86 percent of disposable income.

The survey was based on a sample of 3,471 households with a response rate of 51.8 percent.
