Large crowds are expected today at Bláfjöll ski resort, where workers have been busy preparing the slopes, RÚV reports. Four thousand skiers visited the area yesterday, taking advantage of Sunday’s record snowfall.
Vignir Sigurðsson operated the snow groomer today, getting ready for the 2 pm opening. It was windy in the area before noon, but conditions were expected to improve in the afternoon.
“We’ve worked day and night, getting everything ready,” Vignir remarked, but he is one of two workers who have been compacting the snow. “I’ve seen more snow at Bláfjöll, but this is the most we’ve had at once.” The ski resort will stay open until 9 pm tonight.
