Ski Resorts Open in North Iceland

Three ski resorts opened in north Iceland last weekend, Hlíðarfjall in Akureyri, Böggvisstaðafjall in Dalvík and Skarðsdalur in Siglufjörður. Outside Reykjavík the slopes in Bláfjöll and Skálafell remain closed for now but the cross-country track is open.

However, the City of Reykjavík opened two ski lifts within the capital’s limits last weekend, in the suburbs Grafarvogur and Árbær and the ski lift in Breiðholt is supposed to open today, Morgublaðið reports.

According to weather forecasts, temperatures will continue to be frosty.

At Árbæjarsafn, Reykjavík City Museum, an exhibition of old Christmas traditions is currently running.

Last weekend guests could observe how Christmas dinner was cooked in the early 20th century and the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads joined the dance around the Christmas tree to live accordion music.

In Harpa, the concert and conference center at the Reykjavík seafront, designers held a Christmas market, while outdoor markets were held in Hafnarfjörður and the outdoor recreation area Heiðmörk.
