Skaftá Flood Subsides

The Skaftá flood has subsided over night at Sveinstindur, receding closer to the normal water levels of Skaftá River according to automatic monitors, ruv.is reports.

The surface of Eldvatn at Ytri-Ásar at Skaftártunga, which is close to the highway, seems to have reached its peak and water levels have been stable since about 4 am.

As it stands now, the flood does not seem to be as great as that of October 2008. Some damage has been caused because of the flood, most notably to levees and vegetated areas.
