She commented to that the contest is obviously not just about politics; Europe definitely has its heart in the right place.

Sjonni’s Friends, who performed the song, did not expect to qualify after nine of the ten qualifiers had been announced. “Norway was left, Turkey was left and nations that basically subscribe to the final,” Matthías Matthíasson told Morgunbladid.

“Sjonni teased us terribly in the end by having us announced from the last envelope when it should have been over. It was Sjonni!” Matthíasson added.

Iceland will perform in the Eurovision Song Contest final in Düsseldorf on Saturday, along with the nine other finalists from last night’s semi-final, ten finalists from tomorrow’s semi-final and five countries that have already qualified: Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the UK. Meanwhile, Norwegians are disappointed that their entry didn’t qualify. It seemed to be a favorite among the audience in Düsseldorf and betting houses had predicted it would be successful.

According to the Norwegian national broadcaster the sound was cut off in some countries while the song was being performed. In Spain only the first ten seconds and last half minute could be heard, reports.
