The search and rescue team from Hólmavík in the West Fjords’ Strandir region is helping to transfer 60 teenagers from the high school in Sauðarkrókur to another bus after their coach got stuck on Road 61 last night when the road collapsed on both sides of the vehicle in heavy flooding. The children have been on the bus all night because road conditions were considered too dangerous to continue traveling in the dark, Vísir reports.
Holtavörðuheiði mountain pass on Ring Road One, the main road connecting the West Fjords and North Iceland, has been closed since yesterday because of the flooding.
