In the beautiful village of Þingeyri, West Fjords, population 252, there is a long line every Tuesday between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
The reason: Landsbanki recently decided to close its operation in the village, except for one hour, one day a week. There is no ATM in Þingeyri.
The West Fjords news website bb.is reports that last Tuesday, 12 people stood in line ten minutes before opening time.
If the residents of Þingeyri miss that hour, they must travel 100 km (60 miles) each way to the nearest bank in Ísafjörður.
