Six Year old Hero Saved her Mother and Newborn Sister from Fire

Six year old Eva María Einarsdóttir Nielsen is a real hero. On Friday she saved two lives when she came in to the family apartment full of smoke. Her mother, Íris Jóhannsdóttir, told mbl.is the story:

“I put the milk bottle and pacifier in to a put to boil them and then take my little girl into bed. I feed her and then fall asleep with her. Then I had forgotten the pot on the stove.”

Six year old hero Eva Marín

Six year old Eva Marín was outside playing but came inside to return som toys before she went to the playground again. When she arrived the apartment was full of smoke, but the battery in the fire alarm was dead. She became quite scared but acted fast. Her mother continues:

“She threw herself on the floor and crawled into my room, all the while screaming: “Fire, fire, 112, 112. I woke up and jumped out of bed. After waking her mother up Eva Marín crawled back to the hallway and continued calling out a warning.”

“Like an idiot I ran out and saw nothing because of the smoke. Still I saw a flash of fire on the stove. I took a towel and threw over the pot and carried it out to the balcony. Then I went back to my room, got my little girl and ran out.”

All three went to the emergency room but had not been harmed by the fire.

Eva Marín had visited the Fire Station recently and was instructed on how to react to a fire. Her mother said that she had saved two lives and this should remind people to teach their children how to behave in case of fire but also to make sure the smoke detector is functioning. “If Eva Marín had not come in and acted like a hero, I would not be here today with my daughters.”
