Following yesterday’s reports that a second person has accused sisters Malín Brand and Hlín Einarsdóttir of extortion, the sisters have now decided to lay their own charges.
Hlín and Malín were accused of trying to extort money out of Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson in a case which garnered widespread public attention. Following that, a second man reported the sisters for extorting money out of him over a case of alleged sexual misconduct.
In response, Hlín Einarsdóttir now plans to report the man to police today for rape, Vísir reports.
Her sister, Malín Brand, told reporters that the money was not extortion; it was compensation for a very real case of rape. In exchange, the parties had agreed not to get police involved.
Malín adds that her sister visited the sexual abuse crisis center the following morning; making her case much stronger. Reports from the center will apparently be used as evidence.
The rape is alleged to have occurred on April 4 this year and the man in question is a former work colleague of Hlín’s.
