Sinéad O’Connor to Play in Church, RIFF Opens

Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor’s sole performance during the upcoming Iceland Airwaves music festival in Reykjavík, October 12-16, will be held in the church Fríkirkjan by the Reykjavík Pond on October 14 at 9 pm.

The program of Iceland Airwaves will be posted on the festival’s website today, Morgunbladid reports.

Meanwhile, Benni Hemm Hemm and Borko will play at the concert venue Faktorý in Reykjavík tonight at 10 pm. Benni Hemm Hemm will play old hits and new material, while Borko will promote their second studio album, due for release early next year.

In other culture news, the cinema Bíó Paradís on Hverfisgata in central Reykjavík will serve as the main screening facility of the Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF), September 22-October 2, which kicks off tomorrow.

Last week it was announced that RIFF will open with the screening of Sigur Rós’s music film Inni. This will be its first screening after it received critical praise at the premier at the Venice Film Festival a few weeks ago.

RIFF has always offered unconventional screening locations in addition to cinemas. This year Icelandic film professionals and enthusiasts, among them director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson, will also invite festival goers to their home to watch one of their favorite movies.
