Sigur Rós Tour Announced

The Icelandic band Sigur Rós announced on their Facebook page this morning that they would be touring Europe in 2016.

“all we can say right now is it’s going to be different, with new unreleased songs, a new show and maybe some other *new* things. beyond that, we can only ask you to trust us on this one. festival dates announced today for norway, denmark, russia, slovakia, austria, belgium, united kingdom, germany and the netherlands”

Time Out London announced this morning that Sigur Rós will headline Victoria Park’s Citadel Festival next summer. The website calls the band “Iceland’s mightiest post-rock soundscapers” and “one of the most important and influential bands around.”

The last album released by the band was Kveikur, which came out in 2013, and was followed by a tour of 141 concerts in 32 countries, RÚV reports. That same year, Sigur Rós appeared on The Simpsons, and last year in the Game of Thrones series.

In August this year, the band was reported by Vísir to be in a New York studio with Grammy winner John Congleton. At the time Kári Sturluson, the band’s agent, claimed the band met once in a while to create new material, but what that would lead to was not clear.

Sigur Rós has been active since 1994. The band received international acclaim came with its second album, Ágætis byrjun, released in 1999.
