Sigur Rós organizes protests

Icelandic indie rock band Sigur Rós organized a concert to protests against a planned road construction near the waterfall Álafoss in Mosfellsbaer, outside Reykjavík, last night.

The concert was labeled “Lifi Álafoss” (“Long live Álafoss”) and the profits go to the organization Varmársamtökin, which is campaigning against the road construction in the area. Morgunbladid reports.

Several other bands performed last night, which have all recorded an album in Sigur Rós’ recording studio, the Swimming Pool, by Álafoss. About 800 people attended the concert, which was mostly acoustic.
