Shooting Suspect Arrested

A man suspected in a shooting incident in the Breiðholt neighborhood in Reykjavík on Friday night, was arrested this morning, RÚV reports. He is one of two men suspected in the shooting.

The other suspect was arrested Saturday morning and placed in police custody for a week, citing investigative interests. No decision has been made regarding whether custody will be requested for the one arrested today.

Children were at play a few meters’ distance from the shooting.

Police were notified of gunshots in the Fell area in Breiðholt at 8:30 on Friday night. About thirty police officers and special forces members were sent to the scene, and eight police officers received permission to carry fire arms.

According to RÚV, between 30 and 50 men had gathered in front of a shop on Iðufell where fighting erupted. Soon, one of the men took out a shotgun and shot at a passenger car, smashing one of its windows. The car was immediately driven away from the scene.

Police found the car on Saturday and confirmed that no one had been injured.
