Shoes Found during Search for Missing Woman

Last night, volunteers taking part in the search for Birna Brjánsdóttir, a 20-year-old Icelandic woman who has been missing since Saturday morning, found a pair of shoes, resembling those she was wearing when she was last seen, near Hafnarfjörður harbor, RÚV reports. For that reason, the decision was made to continue searching that area overnight. Sixty people participated in the search, which revealed no other clues. At about 7 am, the search was temporarily halted, but it will resume at dawn.

Ingólfur Haraldsson, one of the organizers of the search from ICE-SAR, stated, “We searched along the coast and in open areas, both with search dogs and in groups of people.”

The pair of shoes was found near a storage facility of Atlantsolía on Óseyrarbraut road.

It’s being examined by the forensics department of the police to verify whether they are indeed Birna’s.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Birna is asked to call the police at +354 444-1000. Messages can also be sent to the police’s Facebook page, or you can send an email to [email protected].

According to Vísir, information regarding Birna’s cell phone connections seems to indicate she did not get into a car on Laugavegur, where security cameras last caught a glipse of her, but rather on nearby Hverfisgata. Police are, however, still searching for the owner of a red car, seen on camera driving down Laugavegur in the opposite direction of Birna at 5:25 am on Saturday morning. That driver is regarded as an essential witness.
