Shared Cars Prioritized on New Reykjavík Road

Reykjavík City’s Environment and Transport Council has decided that people who travel alone in their cars will be barred from driving on the new road Hlídarfótur, which opens in spring 2010 at the foothill of Öskjuhlíd below Perlan restaurant, during peak hours.

Buses, taxis and shared private vehicles will be prioritized on Hlídarfótur while people who drive by themselves will have to pass through Flugvallarvegur, Fréttabladid reports.

This type of traffic control will be undertaken on an experimental basis to begin with and the Environment and Transport Council has provided Reykjavík City’s transport manager with the task of executing it.
