Several thousand more people will need to be hired in the tourism sector in Iceland if the increase in visitors continues, according to Edward H. Huijbens, head of the Icelandic Tourism Research Center.

“There are not enough employees to receive the number of visitors, especially if the number increases in the coming years; we will simply need to import labor,” Huijbens told Rás 2 radio this morning.

According to Huijbens, there are currently around 9,000 people employed in the tourism industry on an annual basis.
