A house, where staff members of Hótel Reynihlíð on Mývatn lake, North Iceland, reside, was destroyed in a fire overnight. Hotel Director Pétur Snæbjörnsson told Vísir there is no doubt that thanks to a young woman who reported the fire, no one was injured.
When the fire erupted, seven staff members were fast asleep in the house, but a woman, who lives next door and also works at the hotel, succeeded in waking them all up, enabling them to escape uninjured. No one suffered smoke inhalation either.
Pétur reported that the staff members are in a state of shock. He added, “You’ve often made a fuss about young people’s unwillingness to sleep during the summer night, but in this case, [staying awake] came in handy.”
Fire fighers completed their job by 5:20 am.
The source of the fire in unclear, and the police are investigating. The concrete house was constructed in 1963.
