Seven Injured in Bus Accident

Between five and seven people were seriously injured when a 40-passenger bus drove off the road by Skálafell, Southwest Iceland, this morning, and rolled over. The bus is thought to have been on the way to Þingvellir. The accident was reported at 10:15 am. Numerous police officers and fire fighters are at the scene, in addition to rescue workers. The Þingvellir road is closed, reports.

The Icelandic Coast Guard Helicopter was called out. Two passengers were stuck on the bus and needed the help of rescue teams with special equipment to get out.

Police ask travelers to stay away from the area while emergency teams complete their work. Most of the passengers involved in the accident are now onboard other buses, which were sent to the area. The driver and travel guide escaped unharmed, according to

Police ask all those who picked up passengers at the accident site to alert police right away by calling 112, so that all passengers can be accounted for.

The cause of the accident is not known, but the road was icy.
