Serious Work Accident in North Iceland

Two men fell 7.5 meters off the roof of a fish processing plant in Þórshöfn, Northeast Iceland, yesterday afternoon. They first landed on a crane boom and then concrete. The men, one of whom suffered serious injuries, were both taken by air ambulance to hospital in Reykjavík.

Duty officer Jón Stefánsson at Þórshöfn told ruv.is that the men had been working on the roof when a cloud blocked out the sun, creating ice on the roof.

The older man, who is in his forties, slipped and fell and the younger, who is in his mid-twenties, tried to grab hold of him but fell too. Jón said they had not been on a safety line.
