Serious Assault in South Iceland

A man in his late teens or early twenties suffered injuries to his throat, hands and upper body after he was attacked with a sharp object in an apartment complex in Thorlákshöfn, south Iceland, on Saturday night.

Police in Selfoss said the victim had been conscious when they arrived. He was taken to the hospital in Selfoss where he was given stitches. His injuries were serious although the man was never in critical condition.

The man has now been released from hospital and is expected to recover fully.

Police were called out because of noise in the apartment around 2 am. There were many people inside the apartment at the time and most of them were arrested and taken to the police station at Selfoss, either as suspects or witnesses, Morgunbladid reports.

Both suspects and witnesses, who are all about the same age as the victim, have been questioned. Five people are still being held at the police station although it has not been decided whether they will remain in police custody.
