Fifteen earthquakes shook the area north of Langjökull glacier, the western highlands, yesterday. The largest measured 4.4 on the Richter scale and was noticed in both Blönduós and Akureyri.

The source of the earthquakes was 12 to 14 kilometers northwest of Hveravellir hot spring area. The first was measured at noon yesterday and the last about ten hours later, Fréttabladid reports.

The area is located on the so-called Langjökull Belt, where earthquakes are not uncommon.
