Seltjarnarnes Culture Festival Begins

The 2015 Culture Festival of Seltjarnarnes, a neighboring town of Reykjavík, kicked off yesterday with the opening of exhibitions dedicated to the songs of the women’s rights movement on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the women’s suffrage in Iceland.

Landbrot, an art exhibition by the town’s honorary artist Helgi Hrafn Jónsson, opened at the Nes exhibition space, and the photo exhibition Extraordinary Children by late photographer and friend of Iceland Mary Ellen Mark opened in Nesstofa.

Throughout the weekend, varied events are planned, including a concert in Seltjarnarneskirkja church for children, featuring the works of J.S. Bach, another concert by the local music school’s brass band, pop quiz, meditation, children’s theater and more concerts.

The festival’s highlight will be a concert by respected Danish singer Tina Dickow, held at the local community center at 9 pm tomorrow, Saturday.
