Selfoss wants changed urban planning

The majority of the inhabitants in Selfoss, south Iceland, who attended an open meeting on urban planning yesterday, wanted to change the current urban organization plans and to protect a green area in the town center.

Selfoss resident Elfa Dögg Thórdardóttir, head of the Town Center Association, said the meeting had been successful and the discussions helpful. Representatives from the construction company Midjan attended the meeting, but no one from the town council was present, Fréttabladid reports.

Selfoss resident Árni Valdimarsson, who attended the meeting, said he was sorry that representatives from the town council had not showed up and expressed their point of view.

Thórdardóttir said many things were still unclear. “[The plans are] still on the drawing board and we also need to know what the town council is organizing.”

At the meeting it was decided that the inhabitants of Selfoss should have the right to vote on any plans the town council had regarding changes to their town.
