Due to the increased seismic activity in Katla volcano, the South Iceland Police have closed the road to Sólheimajökull glacier, a popular tourist destination, RÚV reports. The police have also banned walking on the glacier while the Civil Protection Uncertainty phase, which was declared earlier today, is in effect in Mýrdalsjökull. The police are checking that no one is camping in the area.
Sólheimajökull is a glacier tongue on the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, under which Katla volcano lies.
