Search for Ríkharður Continues

Search and Rescue has yet to find Ríkharður Pétursson, a fifty-year-old man from Selfoss, RÚV reports. Ríkharður has not been seen since Tuesday, when he left his home in the late afternoon.

An extensive search for the missing man began on Thursday night and continued into Friday, with rescue teams employing dogs, drones, ATVs, and a helicopter, in addition to nearly 50 searchers on the ground. The search continued on Saturday morning, with almost 90 people taking part in the effort.

The search for Ríkharður was, however, called off at 4:00PM on Saturday afternoon. “We searched within the town of Selfoss and along the Ölfusá River,” said a post on the local police’s Facebook page. “The search produced no results. We’ll continue searching in the morning, but on a smaller scale than today.”

Ríkharður is around 50 years old, and thin. He was last seen wearing black pants, a black parka, and a black knit cap with yellow writing (MAX) on it. Anyone who knows anything about his movements after 4:00PM on Tuesday is asked to be in touch with the police at 444-2000, 112, or by leaving a message on the Lögreglan á Suðarlandi police Facebook page.
