Search and Rescue Called Out Due to Storm

ice-sar-logoSearch and rescue teams were called out as a storm swept across the country yesterday evening and through the night. They were busiest in the capital region where 32 calls for assistance were received.

In the capital region, roofing slates came loose in the storm, as well as fences and billboards, a press release from ICE-SAR states.

In Svalbardseyri in the north a trampoline blew away in the storm, in Akranes in the west construction material by the local nursing home became airborne and in Kópasker in the northeast roofing slates came loose.

In Stykkishólmur in the west the roof edge of the local brewery was about to be torn off by the storm and another of a private house in town.

In the Sudurnes region in the southwest search and rescue teams had to make sure that the storm wouldn’t cause damage to their own emergency vessel in the harbor of Sandgerdi early this morning.
