Seal watching from sea is a novelty in the Icelandic tourist industry. Two residents of Hvammstangi in northwest Iceland reacted to lack of work by changing a 30-year-old shrimp fishing boat into a seal watching boat, which will be ready for use next summer.

The two innovators, carpenter Kjartan Sveinsson and fishing operator Edvald Daníelsson, are hoping to ride the wave of the popularity of the local seal center and are confident that tourists are keen on taking sailing trips to watch seals from sea, visir.is reports.
The tour operators also plan to offer sea angling tours and midnight sun sailing trips. Sveinsson and Daníelsson are very optimistic about the project and told Stöd 2 that they are certain that it will prove a success. The tours will begin in mid-May.
