Sea Ice Surrounds Grímsey

An unusual amount of icebergs have drifted to the coast of Grímsey island which lies of the north coast. Inhabitants are worried about this development, which could block all sailing routes. Meteorologists warn that more ice will arrive in upcoming days to the north coast of Iceland.

Inhabitant Hulda Signý Gylfadóttir said to Fréttabladid, “I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never seen so much ice. It’s managed to enclose the island in the space of one night.”

Surveillance planes are following the progress of the ice.
